Thermostats

There are two commonly types used:

Digital

Digital thermostats are more accurate because they use electronic thermistors to measure the temperature. They do not need to be level on the wall to read the correct temperature.  Digital thermostats offer set back of temperatures while you are gone from your home and allow you to set them to raise your temperature before you get back.  These are energy saving features.

Mercury

Mercury thermostats use mercury in a sealed switch to turn the temperature up or down.  Mercury thermostats must be level on the wall to read temperature correctly.  If it is not level your room setting will be off.  Currently there are few enhancements to mercury thermostats.  Mercury is being used less because of environmental concerns.
